Ways to boost your self confidence-Part 1

Oxford defines self confidence as ‘A feeling of trust in one’s abilities, qualities, and judgment.’ Someone who lacks self confidence doesn’t necessarily lack skill or knowledge. Self confidence also has to do with being aware of your capabilities.

Your level of confidence affects your mood, the way you think, act, feel about others, and how successful you are in life. It is therefore imperative that you maintain a high level of self confidence as you sojourn through the journey of life.

The following are some ways to boost your self confidence.


Negative people can harm your self confidence. Make a deliberate effort to stay away as much as possible from people who belittle your ambitions and shred your self confidence. It does not matter if the negative person is a family member or a close friend.

Negative people will drain your positive energy and make you feel unsure of your capabilities. If you don’t stay clear of them, in no time, you will begin to think alike. In order to build your self confidence, you need to think and stay positive.

The moment to begin to avoid negative people, your self confidence will rise and your general attitude towards life will also improve.


One thing that erodes peoples’ self confidence is unpreparedness. If you have upcoming interview, meeting, presentation any other event, it is only wise you get well prepared ahead of time. This applies to also your job: acquire all the skills and knowledge you need to function optimally.

Being prepared naturally improves self confidence because in your subconscious you know that you have what it takes to handle the unfolding situation. Furthermore, always be proactive in your preparation as this helps to calm nerves and ensures that you don’t miss out any key aspect of the preparation since you will not be in a rush.

Keeping a bad posture sabotages your self confidence. However a good posture improves your mood and level of self confidence.

Here are some good posture tips that will improve your self confidence:

  • Avoid slouching while standing, sitting or walking
  • Stand /Walk with your head high and shoulders back and relaxed
  • Always sit up straight
  • Maintain good eye contact while talking to people

Affirmations are statements said to reprogram the mind. Use positive affirmations to counteract negativity and fear. They have the ability to change your mood and state of mind. Using them daily will gradually make you someone who is fearless and full of confidence.
